Most Nikon cameras come equipped with built-in Wi-Fi® and Near Field Communication (NFC). Both connectivity functions allow you to easily connect your Nikon camera to a compatible smart device via the Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility (WMU) app.
Once you have connected your smart device to your Nikon camera, you will be able to utilise the following list of features:
- Seamlessly transfer your images from your Nikon camera to your smart device for easy sharing on your social networks
- Once you are connected to the WMU app, you will be able to use your smart device as a remote to capture your subjects. This comes in handy when you want to take a selfie or a group shot with you in the photo too
- The WMU app also allows you to use your smart phone as a remote viewfinder. This gives you the option of shooting from a range of interesting angles and perspectives for when it’s difficult to see the rear monitor, or for shots that are difficult to frame
To get started, simply download the WMU app, available from either the App Store or Google Play on a compatible smart device. Ensure that you have a memory card inserted into your camera.
Connect by selecting your camera’s Wi-Fi® network or SSID on the smart device.
Enable the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi® and access your smart device’s Wi-Fi® settings and select the camera’s network (SSID) in the list of networks displayed. It usually begins with “Nikon”, followed by a string of letters and numbers. Once you are done, launch the WMU app on the smart device.
If your Nikon camera has built-in NFC, simply place the camera’s “N” mark next to the Android smart device. This will connect your Android smart device to your Nikon camera automatically via Wi-Fi, and launch the WMU app.
